September 23-27, 2020

Well, we made it another year despite the challenges facing everyone in 2020. Our good friend Roger came all the way from South Carolina to make the trip as well. I do not believe he was welcomed by king Andrew but he was certainly welcomed by us. We all quarantined together on a very isolated spot deep in the Adirondacks.

DAY 1

Parked at our camp, with the lake looking very peaceful and inviting, time to get setup and relax.

The widow maker is still standing, one of these days ....      Same as it ever was.

After the customary and proper time to "chill at camp" for a while, we headed out onto the lake.

Looking very peaceful as always, fall foliage was coming in nicely too. Awesome!

No pictures of fish from day 1, but as always, we're never in a hurry and it's not a priority on the first day.

DAY 2

A new day, the sun is shining. It's promising to be warm and hopefully the fish will bite.

I recall we started in a favorite bay which is unfortunately becoming less productive in recent years. Eventually we always head to a creek mouth where the fish usually do not disappoint. The water was also very low this year, maybe the lowest we've seen yet.

That's a start That's a little better, love how them Smallies fight

So, you guys going to get in on some of this action or what?

Captain is on the board with a jumbo perch We've got 4 species covered.

As I mentioned, this spot usually does not disappoint, and we managed to land a few more before the sun went down on that first full day.

Look at that chunker,  The bass is hefty as well :)

A couple more representative Northern Pike from Middle Saranac Lake

DAY 3

So, the next day the weather was looking promising again and we were expecting a special visitor as well. The banner photo for this page gives it away, Jake came down from College with his first boat and cruised over to Middle Saranac to spend the day with us.

We met him at the mouth of the river, welcomed him aboard and towed his boat back to camp.

We enjoyed his company for a while back at camp, and he did a little fishing with us as well; but the days are already short and he had a long trek to make it  back to the launch before dark, so we towed him back to the mouth of the creek and bid him adieu.

take care buddy, be safe, and most importantly - link (Once a Dad, always a Dad)

That evening as we took our sweet time heading back to camp, the lake was very calm and the fall colors and reflections were just awesome.

DAY 4

A new day dawned calm and clear again, and you can really see just how low the water was this year.

As we do every year, one of the days we tend to cruise around the lake and stop at a few of the camping sites if they are un-occupied. One of our favorite but hard to get spots on windy point was vacated so we stopped in for a visit and much to our surprise, the lean-to had been replaced.

Brand new! It's really going to be tough to get now.

We also like to visit a spot just across the lake from Windy point and enjoy the sun and the view, a short climb is worth it.

Dos Amigos Serenity

We also tried fishing some new weed bed edges and there were plenty of weed beds with the water being so low. Jon and I managed to land a couple more.

Well,  looking at all the photos, it would be the first time in a while that we were in shorts and no rain gear for the entire trip. If I recall correctly, we didn't even setup a tarp shelter at camp this year. We were really blessed with good weather for sure.

DAY 5

The final day is pack up and leave day and the only picture I have is from the boat and it looks like the fair weather was about to turn.

Conclusion:

Being up here really pulls you away from the cares of the world for a few days. For me it helps to put things in perspective. The Adirondacks are truly a national treasure and there are many places like this in our great country. Let's remember to enjoy them and appreciate what we have. I honestly feel blessed to be able to spend time up here with good friends.
